Overall, participants write a 715 reasons to have sex. The researchers removed the reason for the repeated, until the remaining filter 237 reasons. Furthermore, Meston and Buss presented the list to 1549 psychology students and asked them to rank how often or ever had sex for each of 237 reasons.
The researchers identified nine broad themes that are characteristic of the top reasons for having sex.
– Pure interested in other people in general
– Want to experience physical pleasure
– Expressing Love
– Incurred lust in others
– To increase the depth of the relationship
– Curiosity or seeking new experiences
– Indicates a special event to be celebrated
– Only sheer chance
– The state that can not be controlled
The study also emphasizes the five principal reasons cited by students frequency slightly.Highlights include the wish to hurt others (partner, enemies, or strangers), have the resources (such as jobs, money, drugs, gifts), strengthening social status, using sex as something seemingly unrelated (such as ease headache), or having sex out of duty or pressure.
